MTR: All stations will try to remain open during service hours during the typhoon
MTR Corporation (00066.HK) stated that in response to the Observatory's expectation of the super typhoon "Haikaisar" significantly impacting the weather in Hong Kong, services will generally remain normal when the No. 8 tropical cyclone warning signal is in effect, while MTR buses will suspend service three hours after the No. 8 signal is in effect.
MTR said that when the No. 9 signal or higher is in effect, heavy rail outdoor sections including the Airport Express line, parts of the East Rail line, and the Tuen Ma line, as well as light rail, will suspend service.
As for trains that are currently serving passengers on outdoor sections, they will, under safe conditions, try to proceed to the originally scheduled terminal station or a relatively safe station with connecting malls. During the typhoon, all stations will try to remain open during service hours.
MTR stated that even after the No. 8 and higher signals are gradually lifted, the operations team may need a longer time to inspect the condition of railway equipment and complete all repair work before gradually restoring train services, emphasizing that they will strive to complete this as quickly as possible and will provide updates on the service.
Regarding the estates and malls managed by MTR, the company said it has implemented a series of windproof measures, such as inspecting and clearing all drainage channels to ensure smooth flow and placing sandbags in appropriate locations. The 28 residential buildings in Heng Fa Chuen on Hong Kong Island have installed flood gates and set up temporary pumping facilities in the lobby. Vehicles in the basement parking lot of the estate will also be temporarily relocated to the parking lot of Heng Fa Chuen New Town or moved to Upper Heng Fa Chuen
