The Taiwan Affairs Office: Appreciates the insightful individuals on the island who call for the normalization of cross-strait personnel exchanges
On September 24th, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference. A reporter asked: Representatives from Taiwan's tourism industry recently called at the first Cross-Strait Tourism High-Quality Development Conference for the Lai Ching-te administration to lift the "ban on group tours" for Taiwanese travel agencies to the mainland as soon as possible and to allow mainland tourists to visit Taiwan. Earlier this year, the mainland agreed to allow residents of Shanghai and Fujian to travel to Taiwan, but the Lai administration insisted that it must first go through negotiations in the "small cross-strait tourism meetings" before proceeding. The Lai administration should seize the opportunity. What is your comment on this? Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, stated that we have consistently and clearly supported the development of exchanges and cooperation in various fields across the strait, including the tourism industry. Normalizing personnel exchanges and regularizing exchanges in various fields is the common aspiration of compatriots on both sides of the strait. We appreciate that insightful individuals from various sectors on the island are actively advocating for this and passionately engaging in cross-strait exchanges. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities ignore the strong desire of Taiwan's tourism industry and the public to improve livelihoods, strengthen cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, and develop cross-strait relations. Their deliberate obstruction and restriction of normal exchanges between the people on both sides in pursuit of "independence" will only lead to greater dissatisfaction and opposition, and they will increasingly lose public support
