European stocks fell in early trading, with healthcare stocks under pressure as the market awaited comments from Federal Reserve officials and the release of U.S. second-quarter economic growth and initial jobless claims data.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell by 1.49 points or 0.3%, closing at 552.39 points. The UK FTSE 100 index dropped 5 points to 9,245.07 points; the French CAC 40 index decreased by 35 points or 0.4%, closing at 7,792 points; the German DAX index fell by 99 points or 0.4%, closing at 23,566 points; the Spanish IBEX 35 index declined by 13 points or 0.1%, closing at 15,181 points; and the Italian FTSE MIB index dropped by 82 points or 0.2%, closing at 42,340 points.

The U.S. Department of Commerce launched a "Section 232" national security investigation into imported medical devices, causing Siemens Healthineers to drop 4.4% and Koninklijke Philips N.V. to fall 2.9%. Swedish fast-fashion retailer H&M reported quarterly earnings far exceeding expectations, with its stock rising 10%. Mining stocks BHP Group and Rio Tinto rose by 3.7% and 2.7%, respectively, while Glencore increased by 1.6%.

In U.S. stock futures, the Dow futures rose by 30 points to 46,471 points; the S&P 500 futures increased by 4 points to 6,696 points; and the Nasdaq 100 futures rose by 13 points to 24,752 points.

In the Asia-Pacific stock markets, the Shanghai Composite fell by 0.01%, while the Shenzhen Composite rose by 0.7%. The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index dropped by 33 points or 0.1%, closing at 26,484 points, with a turnover of 314.9 billion yuan. The Taiwan stock market fell by 0.7%, the Japanese stock market rose by 0.3%, and the South Korean stock market decreased by 0.03%. The Australian stock market rose by 0.1%, while the New Zealand stock market fell by 0.2%. The Indian Nifty 50 index dropped by 55 points or 0.2%, closing at 25,001 points. The Singapore Straits Times Index fell by 13 points or 0.3%, closing at 4,276 points. The Malaysian stock market rose by 0.01%, the Indonesian stock market fell by 0.6%, the Thai stock market increased by 0.9%, and the Vietnamese markets in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City rose by 0.1% and 0.5%, respectively, while the Philippine stock market dropped by 1.1%
