
The South Korean National Assembly passed a bill to establish a new telecommunications regulatory agency
The South Korean National Assembly passed a bill on Saturday led by the ruling Democratic Party to establish a new telecommunications and broadcasting management committee. The bill was approved in a plenary session of the National Assembly with 176 votes in favor and 1 abstention, while the main opposition party, the People Power Party, boycotted the bill. As part of Lee Jae-myung's government restructuring plan, the bill calls for the abolition of the Korea Communications Commission and the establishment of a new committee to oversee the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors. The new committee will also take over additional functions from the Ministry of Science and ICT
