The update comes nearly a year after the last major release of FSD and is considered one of the biggest leaps for FSD yet, introducing automated parking options, new driving profiles, and enhanced neural network-based navigation. The rollout follows a brief delay over the weekend, when CEO Elon Musk confirmed that a last-minute technical glitch had pushed the release back from its original target. According to the release notes, version 14.1 introduces a suite of new features designed to make Tesla’s driving system smarter and more adaptable in real-world conditions. Drivers can now select where FSD should park at the end of a trip, choosing between a parking lot, street, driveway, garage, or curbside. It also adds the ability to automatically pull over or yield to emergency vehicles, such as police cars and ambulances—something which has been witnessed before, but never officially mentioned in the release notes. Navigation and routing have also been woven directly into Tesla’s vision-based neural network, allowing for real-time detection and avoidance of blocked roads and detours without relying solely on preloaded maps. One of the most notable additions is a new “Speed Profile” system that lets drivers fine-tune FSD’s behaviour even more than before. New to the profile selection is “Sloth” mode, which favours lower speeds and more conservative lane changes. The other three profiles – Chill, Standard, and Hurry, remain. FSD can now also handle complex environments like parking lots and garages. Testers say it confidently waits at ticket barriers, proceeds once the arm lifts, and even appears to interpret signage to navigate toward exits. One driver noted that FSD successfully maneuvered from the back corner of a parking structure all the way out without intervention. Owners are also reporting that the update allows FSD to not only navigate driveways, but also pull into garages—a first for the system. Tesla has also added automatic alerts for windshield residue buildup that may impact the front camera’s performance. This appears to address something which has become a topic of conversation as of late, with Musk recently saying that simplifying the frustrating process of cleaning the interior windshield in front of Autopilot cameras was a “major area of focus.” For now, drivers will be prompted to visit Service if visibility becomes impaired. <h3 id="h-what-s-next-for-fsd">What’s Next for FSD</h3> According to Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s Director of Autopilot Software, v14.1 is “the first in the v14 series,” with multiple follow-up releases planned for the rest of the year. He noted that these updates will deliver “significant improvements” to smoothness, parking accuracy, and overall driving behavior. So far the update is limited to vehicles with Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4), with one notable exclusion – the Cybertruck. Elluswamy confirmed however that FSD v14 will bring full-featured parking and reversing capabilities, and that it would be released for the electric pickup “soon.” As for owners with HW3, who are still stuck on v12 of FSD, there has been no updated timeline for when these vehicles might get an update.
