Global risk assets were hit hard on Friday after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to hike tariffs against China, with crypto markets hit particularly hard as analysts noted it was the largest wipeout in a 24-hour period in the market's history. Friday's crash was nine times larger than the February 2025 crash and 19 times bigger than the March 2020 meltdown and the FTX collapse in November 2022.Bitcoin slid about 5.6% on Friday, while ether and XRP (XRP=) dropped about 11% each. Jefferies expects token prices to continue diverging as spot token ETF listings drive institutional entrance and a shift in focus to bitcoin and tokens powering revenue-generating protocols that provide token holders with a call on cash flows. &#34;Although painful for token holders, we view removal of the sector's froth as healthy and a prerequisite for the next leg of market value expansion,&#34; Jefferies analysts said in a note dated October 13. The analysts view any tariff-related volatility, as well as future macro headwind as a buying opportunity for investors waiting on the sidelines. October historically has been a strong month for bitcoin, with the cryptocurrency posting positive returns nine times out of the past 10 Octobers. Whether we could see another strong October &#34;remains to be seen,&#34; according to Jefferies. While off their recent lows, selling pressure is strong on Tuesday, with bitcoin down 4% and ether down nearly 8% as investors monitored the developments in the U.S-China trade spat.
