
Apple and Beijing Anzhen Hospital launch a study to monitor atrial fibrillation using Apple Watch
On October 16, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced via Weibo that the company is collaborating with Beijing Anzhen Hospital and the American Heart Association to study the application of the Apple Watch in health management for heart failure patients. The project plans to equip over 200 patients discharged after atrial fibrillation combined with heart failure with Apple Watches. During a 90-day follow-up period, the study will observe whether the Apple Watch aids in the treatment of heart failure. Cook stated that heart disease is the leading cause of death globally and expressed his excitement to work with Beijing Anzhen Hospital and the American Heart Association, leveraging the Apple Watch's advanced machine learning-based atrial fibrillation detection capabilities to conduct research on managing heart failure patients. As the principal investigator, Ma Changsheng, director of the Cardiology Center at Beijing Anzhen Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, expressed optimism about the transformative potential of wearable devices in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases
