IBM claims it can run quantum computing error correction algorithms on AMD chips
IBM (IBM.US) announced on Friday that it has been able to run critical quantum computing error correction algorithms on off-the-shelf chips from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US).
IBM's research director Jay Gambetta stated that this research demonstrates that IBM's algorithms not only work in the real world but can also run on readily available AMD chips, which are not overly expensive.
IBM is currently competing with Microsoft (MSFT.US) and Google's parent company Alphabet (GOOGL.US) in the development of quantum computing technology. Google also announced this week that its quantum algorithms have made breakthrough progress
