
JPEX case: Police sue 16 people including Lin Zuo, and are seeking to apprehend 3 masterminds and key members
The police have filed charges against 16 individuals in the virtual currency platform JPEX case, reportedly including Lin Zuo and others. The case will be brought to the Eastern Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning (6th).
Among the 16 individuals charged are 6 core members, 7 heads of cryptocurrency over-the-counter (OTC) exchanges, 3 puppet account holders, and well-known online influencers (KOL) responsible for promotion, some of whom are former classmates. The police have also notified Interpol to issue red notices for 3 fugitives, believed to be 2 masterminds of the group and 1 key member.
So far, the police have received reports from over 2,700 individuals regarding the JPEX case, claiming losses exceeding HKD 1.6 billion, and have arrested a total of 80 people, freezing HKD 228 million in funds. Chief Superintendent Wong Chan-yu of the Commercial Crime Bureau stated that the JPEX case is very complex, involving a long investigation of massive amounts of data and transaction records, along with legal monitoring, ultimately leading to the discovery of crucial evidence. After consulting legal advice from the Department of Justice, they believe there is sufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution.
He also mentioned that this is the first round of prosecution actions, and a second round of prosecutions may not be ruled out at a later appropriate time. When asked how victims can recover the amounts involved, Wong Chan-yu stated that it would require civil procedures and advised victims to seek legal advice for understanding
