Elon Musk: Tesla may build a chip superfactory and does not rule out cooperation with Intel
Tesla (TSLA.US) CEO Elon Musk stated that it may be necessary to build a large chip factory to produce AI chips, or there may be a need to collaborate with Intel (INTC.US).
Currently, Tesla is designing the fifth generation AI chip to support its autonomous driving program. Musk mentioned that no agreements have been signed with Intel yet, but discussions may take place.
Stimulated by the news, Intel's stock price rose 2.6% in after-hours trading to $38.21. Musk indicated that the AI5 chip will begin limited production next year, with mass production likely not occurring until 2027. The performance of AI6 is expected to be twice that of AI5, with mass production anticipated by mid-2028. Therefore, the existing chip production capacity is insufficient, and it may be necessary to build a super chip factory capable of producing at least 100,000 wafers per month
