SoftBank (09984.JP) reported last quarter's earnings exceeding expectations, liquidating its Nvidia holdings for $5.8 billion

SoftBank Group Corp. (09984.JP) reported that its profit attributable to the parent company for the second fiscal quarter ending in September more than doubled to JPY 2.5 trillion, exceeding market expectations. Revenue grew by 8.4% to JPY 1.92 trillion, while market expectations were JPY 1.9 trillion.

In the first half of the fiscal year, the Vision Fund of SoftBank generated investment returns of JPY 3.42 trillion, which included JPY 1.89 trillion related to investments in OpenAI. According to the investment agreement reached between SoftBank and OpenAI, SoftBank will make an additional investment of USD 22.5 billion in OpenAI in October.

At the end of the second fiscal quarter, SoftBank had sold a total of 32.1 million shares of Nvidia (NVDA.US), valued at USD 5.83 billion. Additionally, during the second fiscal quarter, SoftBank sold a total of 40.2 million shares of T-Mobile, valued at USD 9.17 billion.

SoftBank also announced that it will conduct a 1-for-4 stock split on January 1 of next year
