TAI HING GROUP founder Chan Wing On passed away, leaving a huge legacy in the restaurant industry as the "Godfather of Roast Meat."

The famous chain restaurant company TAI HING GROUP (6811) announced yesterday (24th) that its founder, controlling shareholder, and chairman Mr. Chan Wing On has passed away. TAI HING GROUP stated that since founding the brand in 1989, Chan Wing On led the group from a small "Tai Hing Roast Meat" in Sai Wan Ho, using "freshly made" as a selling point, gradually establishing the brand into a dining empire spanning Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China. From the initial roast meat specialty store, it later expanded to multiple brands such as "Cha Mu," "Hainan Chicken Rice," and "Man Wah," TAI HING has developed into one of the most representative dining groups in the local food and beverage industry. As of this year's mid-term, TAI HING operates a total of 217 restaurants across the three regions, ranking among the top in the industry. TAI HING described Chan Wing On's contribution to the group's success as "valuable and immense," and his impact on Hong Kong's dining industry is also profound and lasting. Although consumer sentiment has been weak, TAI HING's performance in recent years can still be described as a remarkable exception. According to the mid-term results announced in June this year, the group's revenue grew by 6.2% year-on-year to HKD 1.712 billion, and net profit surged 2.8 times year-on-year to HKD 40.81 million, with a gross profit margin of 73.4%, reflecting a solid brand foundation. The board of directors and all management of TAI HING expressed deep gratitude for Chan Wing On's years of dedication and stated that they will continue to adhere to the brand direction and strategy he established, ensuring the group seeks steady progress and sustainable development. The group also pointed out that a new chairman will be appointed in due course and will be announced as required. Chan Wing On's passing has resulted in the loss of a significant promoter in Hong Kong's dining industry.
