<div id="readability-page-1">Local immigration authorities have received a request for help after a 46-year-old Hong Kong tourist was arrested in Japan following a car crash.\nThe Hong Kong man was arrested after his rental car reportedly veered across the centre line on a frozen highway in Kyowa, Hokkaido, colliding with another vehicle at around 3.50pm on Wednesday.\nThe Japanese driver, 52, in the other vehicle was taken to hospital with sternum and left wrist fractures. The Hong Kong driver and his three passengers were uninjured.\n\nThe Hongkonger was arrested on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in injury, and subsequently admitted the charge during police questioning, local reports said.\nThe Immigration Department confirmed on Thursday that it had received a request for help regarding the case, adding that it had immediately contacted the foreign ministry’s arm in Hong Kong and the Chinese consulate in Sapporo to find out the situation.\n“The Immigration Department has provided appropriate advice and feasible help based on the wishes of the resident’s family,” a spokesman said.\nHe added that the department would maintain close contact with the foreign ministry’s office, the consulate and the man’s family to follow up on the case.\n</div>
