
"European Stocks" European stocks rise in early trading, Spanish stock market hits a new high, UBS rises over 4%
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 Index in the US reached new closing highs on the night of the 11th, driving global stock markets higher, with European stocks following suit in the early session. The market is focused on the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The UK economy contracted in the three months ending in October, which was unexpected by the market, but it had little impact on UK stocks.
The pan-European STOXX 600 Index rose by 2.95 points or 0.5%, closing at 584.29 points. The UK FTSE 100 Index increased by 51 points or 0.5%, closing at 9,754 points; the French CAC 40 Index rose by 48 points or 0.6%, closing at 8,134 points; the German DAX Index increased by 154 points or 0.6%, closing at 24,448 points; the Spanish IBEX 35 Index rose by 98 points or 0.6%, closing at 16,981 points, reaching a new high of 17,014 points during the session; the Italian FTSE MIB Index rose by 277 points or 0.6%, closing at 43,980 points.
In terms of individual stocks, UBS, appliance company Electrolux, and German Lufthansa each rose over 4%, contributing significantly to the increase in the pan-European STOXX 600 Index. Prosus and Standard Chartered also each rose over 2%.
In US stock futures, Dow futures rose by 160 points to 48,906 points; the S&P 500 Index rose by 4 points to 6,911 points; and Nasdaq 100 futures fell by 34 points to 25,678 points.
In the Asia-Pacific stock markets, the Shanghai and Shenzhen indices rose by 0.4% and 0.8%. The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index rose by 446 points or 1.7%, closing at 25,976 points, with a turnover of 242.7 billion HKD. The Taiwan stock market rose by 0.6%, while the Japanese and South Korean stock markets rose by 1.4%. The Australian and New Zealand stock markets rose by 1.2% and less than 0.1%, respectively. The Indian Nifty 50 Index rose by 134 points or 0.5%, closing at 26,033 points. The Singapore Straits Times Index rose by 61 points or 1.4%, closing at 4,582 points. The stock markets in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia rose by 0.4%, 0.8%, and 0.9%, respectively, while the Thai stock market rose by less than 0.1%. The stock markets in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, fell by 2.3% and 3.1%
