Meet Sophie Nélisse, who plays Rose Landry on Heated Rivalry – and is also on Yellowjackets

The latest episode of Crave and HBO Max’s hit queer ice hockey romance series Heated Rivalry just threw another plot twist at fans with Sophie Nélisse’s character Rose Landry.\nIntroduced as a beloved and charming actress, Rose becomes a wedge between the show’s main leads Ilya (Connor Storrie) and Shane (Hudson Williams), two ice hockey rivals who have a complicated and steamy relationship off the ice.\n\nJust as things between Ilya and Shane start to become a little too serious, Shane debuts a romantic relationship with Rose in the fourth episode. A scene showing the actress attending Shane’s ice hockey match while wearing his jersey has been likened to a real-life Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce moment.\nBut who is the actress behind Rose Landry? Read on to learn more about Sophie Nélisse.\nShe made her acting debut as a child\n\nSophie Nélisse is a 25-year-old French-Canadian actress. She was born in Windsor, Canada, and raised in Montreal. Per the local daily newspaper Windsor Star, it was Nélisse’s brother who wanted to be an actor while she focused on gymnastics. She had dreams of competing in the Olympics and began acting from the age of seven to pay for her gymnastic-related expenses.\n“Throughout the years I continued and I eventually stopped gymnastics because it was too demanding and I wanted to pursue acting. And so here I am. I’m trying to make it more of a career now,” Nélisse told Windsor Star in 2016.\n\nNélisse was only 10 or 11 when she debuted in the 2011 film Monsieur Lazhar, for which she earned a Genie and a Jutra award for best supporting actress. Nélisse later starred in films such as The Book Thief (2013) and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019).\nShe wants to work behind the scenes\n\nWhen she was 16, Nélisse told Windsor Star that she was keen to win an Oscar one day, though she is “not ever going to choose a script just for that”. Nélisse is now perhaps best known for starring in the Showtime thriller drama series Yellowjackets.\nThe actress has also expressed an interest in working behind the scenes. “I like the idea of knowing a bit of everything,” she said in an interview with Elle Canada “I love the idea of knowing how a script got written, so let me try to write one for myself.”\n“It’s the same with producing – maybe I’ll never produce a big movie that is seen by millions, but just to do it and see the background work of an entire production I think is really important,” she added.\nWho is she dating?\n\nNélisse may be romancing Hudson Williams on-screen, but the actress is fairly low-key about her IRL romantic life.
