International Energy Agency: Coal demand will gradually decline before 2030
The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated that global coal usage has reached its peak, and with the proliferation of renewable energy and liquefied natural gas, coal consumption will begin to slowly decline over the next five years.
The IEA indicated that coal consumption in China and India remains strong, with a slight increase in coal demand of 0.5% this year, reaching a record 884.5 million tons, before declining by 3% by 2030. The IEA estimates that coal demand in China will slightly decrease over the next five years, but if the proportion of renewable energy connected to the grid decreases or if coal gasification projects accelerate, this slight decline may turn into slight growth
