ValueMax: Sued by Louis Vuitton, expected not to have a significant impact on business and performance | Lianhe Zaobao

French luxury goods group Louis Vuitton has filed a lawsuit in the High Court against the local listed company ValueMax Group for its wholly-owned subsidiary ValueMax Retail, involving trademark infringement and false designation. ValueMax Group stated that it will take all necessary measures to protect its reputation. ValueMax Group issued a statement on Thursday (December 18) on the Singapore Exchange detailing the case. It also mentioned that it does not expect this case to have any significant impact on the group's business or the annual financial statements for the year ending this year. Louis Vuitton issued a claim in September this year, accusing ValueMax Retail of selling jewelry with one or more trademarks identical or similar to Louis Vuitton's at its retail store on Yishun Avenue 22 in July and August 2024. Additionally, Louis Vuitton claimed that the store sold a gold pendant on August 5, 2025, and also promoted a pair of gold earrings. Louis Vuitton stated that these are counterfeit goods infringing on the company's trademarks. ValueMax Group explained that the aforementioned gold jewelry and gold earrings were unredeemed pawned items obtained through other channels. "Given that legal proceedings are still ongoing, ValueMax Group will actively and vigorously respond to all claims made and take all necessary measures to protect its reputation. Considering the manner in which the items were obtained, ValueMax Group expresses regret that both parties failed to resolve this issue in a meaningful and friendly manner based on mutual interests." Its stock price has fallen 2.03% over the past week. According to a report by Lianhe Zaobao, Louis Vuitton has filed for statutory damages against ValueMax Retail under the Trademarks Act. The case conference was held on Tuesday (16th). Under the Trademarks Act, the compensation for each trademark infringement of goods or services is up to 100,000 yuan, with a total maximum of 1 million yuan, unless the claimant can prove actual losses exceeding 1 million yuan. Louis Vuitton has also applied to the High Court for an injunction to prevent ValueMax Retail from infringing on Louis Vuitton's trademarks, counterfeiting or attempting to counterfeit the company's goods as Louis Vuitton products, and falsely claiming an economic association or relationship with Louis Vuitton.
