 Eli Lilly shares rose after the maker of weight-loss drugs filed for U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of a new pill called orforglipron that has helped clinical-trial participants lose weight. 

 Danish rival Novo Nordisk, meanwhile, filed for FDA approval of CagriSema, a once-weekly shot that combines two compounds to treat obesity. CagriSema combines the main ingredient in Wegovy with cagrilintide, an experimental drug that mimics the amylin hormone, the body's appetite regulator. 

 Cannabis producers such as Tilray and Canopy Growth fell after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to reschedule marijuana as a lower-class drug, stopping short of permitting recreational sales.
