According to The Wall Street Journal, Meta Platforms (META.US) is developing a new artificial intelligence model focused on images and videos, codenamed Mango, while also working on the next large language model based on text.
According to sources, Meta's Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang discussed these AI models during an internal Q&A session with Meta's Chief Product Officer Chris Cox on Thursday, and they are expected to be released in the first half of 2026.
Wang stated that a focus of the new text model, codenamed Avocado, is to enhance its programming capabilities, and the company is currently in the early stages of exploring the development of what is called a world model, which is an AI that learns about its environment by receiving visual information.
Meta restructured its AI team in the summer, hiring Alexandr Wang to lead the Meta Super Intelligence Lab and recruiting over 50 new AI experts
