CN criticizes UP and NS merger application to STB as lacking competition enhancement & public benefits, below 2001 merger rules.

Earlier today, a merger application submitted by Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern in Montreal was deemed insufficient in showcasing the potential benefits of the merger in terms of competition and public advantages that would necessitate it. This application does not meet the standards set by the Surface Transportation Board (STB), as it falls significantly below both the 2001 regulations and older merger guidelines.
