U.S. Stocks: S&P 500 Hits New High Again, Dow Jones Rises 288 Points to Set New Closing Record

U.S. stocks closed early on Wednesday and rebounded again, with the S&P 500 index rising to a record high and setting a new closing record. The U.S. stock market will be closed on Thursday for Christmas.

The S&P 500 index rose 22 points or 0.3% to close at 6,932 points; the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 288 points or 0.6% to close at 48,731 points, also setting a new closing high; the Nasdaq rose 51 points or 0.2% to close at 23,613 points.

In terms of individual stocks, Nike (NKE.US) was one of the notable gainers, with its stock price rising 4.6%. Documents showed that Apple CEO Tim Cook disclosed he had purchased $3 million worth of Nike shares. Micron Technology (MU.US) and Citigroup (C.US) also showed strength, with stock prices rising 3.8% and 1.8%, respectively, reaching new highs during the trading session.

According to reports, NVIDIA (NVDA.US) has suspended mass production testing of Intel (INTC.US), with both stocks falling less than 1%
