On the 29th, China National Petroleum Corporation announced that as of December 28, the carbon dioxide injection volume of China National Petroleum's Xinjiang Oilfield has exceeded 1 million tons this year, making it the first oilfield in China to achieve an annual carbon injection of 1 million tons. This marks a key step for the Xinjiang Oilfield in the large-scale application of CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) technology, providing important technical support and practical pathways for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals in China's oil and gas extraction. The Xinjiang Oilfield is located in the Junggar Basin and is the first large oilfield in New China. CCUS refers to the capture and purification of carbon dioxide emitted during the production process, which is then reused and stored in new production processes. According to calculations from the Xinjiang Oilfield, injecting 1 million tons of carbon dioxide is equivalent to planting nearly 9 million trees. (Xinhua News Agency)
