Trip.com: The booking volume of tickets for mainland scenic spots during the New Year's holiday increased more than four times year-on-year
Trip.com released the "2026 New Year's Travel Report," showing that during this year's three-day New Year's holiday, the mainland tourism market experienced a strong start, with national scenic spot ticket bookings increasing more than fourfold year-on-year, and inbound travel-related bookings also significantly rising, sparking the first wave of consumption for the year.
The report indicates that short-distance surrounding travel accounted for 63% of the holiday trips, with hot springs and skiing-themed scenic spots being the most popular; for long-distance travel, Sanya, Harbin, and Kunming ranked as the top three destinations. Inbound travel order volume has recovered to 80% of the same period in 2019, with the main sources of tourists being Japan, South Korea, and the United States.
Trip.com Research Institute predicts that the number of domestic travelers will continue to grow at double-digit rates before the Spring Festival, driving simultaneous expansion in transportation, accommodation, and dining sectors.
Additionally, a report from Qunar shows that with the combined demand for surrounding travel, extended holiday trips, and inbound travel, hotel bookings for popular destinations during the three-day New Year's holiday in 2026 increased by 50% year-on-year, covering over 1,000 counties nationwide, with travel enthusiasm reaching new highs
