The high-speed rail section operated by MTR Corporation (00066.HK) in Hong Kong is expected to exceed 30 million passengers in 2025, an annual increase of nearly 17%, setting a new record. On the Saturday of the recently concluded Christmas holiday (December 27), the West Kowloon Station recorded nearly 140,000 passengers, breaking the single-day passenger record. Since its opening in September 2018, the cumulative passenger volume of the high-speed rail has recently surpassed 100 million.

MTR stated that currently, most high-speed rail passengers are short-distance travelers, accounting for about 80% of the total, while Hong Kong residents have increased from about 30% at the beginning of operations to approximately 45%, with the remainder being mainland and overseas travelers, reflecting that the high-speed rail has facilitated interaction and communication between the two regions
