
"Hong Kong Stocks" Hang Seng Index closed up 363 points, with AI, smart driving, finance, and metal stocks rising
The US stock market's Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a new high, while the Shanghai Composite Index hit a more than ten-year high. Hong Kong stocks rose along with the external market. The Hang Seng Index opened 155 points higher and the gains expanded, rising by as much as 510 points to 26,858 points, closing up 363 points or 1.4% at 26,710 points; the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 95 points or 1%, closing at 9,244 points; the Hang Seng Tech Index rose 85 points or 1.5%, closing at 5,825 points. The total market turnover for the day was HKD 291.758 billion.
In the technology sector, Tencent (00700.HK), JD.com (09618.HK), and Baidu (09888.HK) rose by 1.3% to 1.7%, Alibaba (09988.HK) fell by 1.3%, Meituan (03690.HK) rose by 0.7%, and Bilibili (09626.HK), Kuaishou (01024.HK), and NetEase (09999.HK) rose by 2.2% to 3%. Dongfang Zhenxuan (01797.HK) and BYD Electronics (00285.HK) rose by 4.7% and 3.9%.
Xindong (02400.HK) plans to repurchase up to HKD 400 million of its shares, with the stock price rising by 6%. Additionally, artificial intelligence stocks SenseTime (00020.HK) and Jingdian (02228.HK) rose by 5.8% and 6.6%, while medical platforms Ping An Good Doctor (01833.HK), JD Health (06618.HK), and Alibaba Health (00241.HK) rose by 3.9% to 5.4%. In the chip sector, SMIC (00981.HK) fell by 1.2%, while Wall Street (06082.HK) dropped by 6.6%. Fiber optic cable stock Changfei (06869.HK) retraced by 3.9%.
NVIDIA released an open-source autonomous driving platform, with autonomous driving stocks WERIDE (00800.HK) and Pony.ai (02026.HK) rising by 4% and 6.9%. Hesai (02525.HK), selected by NVIDIA as a lidar partner, rose by 5.9%, and autonomous driving chip maker Horizon (09660.HK) rose by 3.8%. Automotive stocks BYD (01211.HK), Seres (09927.HK), and XPeng (09868.HK) rose by 3.4% to 4.1%, while Xiaomi (01810.HK) fell by 1.5%. Automotive parts stocks Nexperia (01316.HK) and Xinyi Glass (00868.HK) rose by 6.9% and 3.8%, while lithium stocks Tianqi (09696.HK) and Ganfeng (01772.HK) rose by 3.9% and 6.6%. Battery stock CATL (03750.HK) fell by 0.8%.
External bank stocks rose, with HSBC (00005.HK) and Standard Chartered (02888.HK) rising by 3.1% and 1.9%. The mainland stock market also rose, with domestic insurance stocks China Life (02628.HK), ZhongAn (06060.HK), and Ping An (02318.HK) rising by 4.3% to 5%. Brokerage stocks GF Securities (01776.HK), CITIC Securities (06030.HK), and CITIC Construction Investment (06066.HK), China Galaxy (06881.HK), Huatai (06886.HK), and Guotai Junan (02611.HK) rose by 5.9% to 7.7%, while CICC (03908.HK) increased by 8.7%. In other financial stocks, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (00388.HK) and AIA (01299.HK) rose by 2.9% and 2.6%.
With commodity prices rising, gold mining stocks Zhaojin (01818.HK) increased by 7.3%, while Zijin Mining International (02259.HK), Zijin Mining (02899.HK), and Shandong Gold (01787.HK) rose by 3.6% to 4.5%. Resource stocks Jiangxi Copper (00358.HK), Hongqiao (01378.HK), and Minmetals Resources (01208.HK) rose by 4.9% to 6.1%, while Luoyang Molybdenum (03993.HK) increased by 3%. Domestic property stocks Jinmao (00817.HK) and Longfor (00960.HK) rose by 5.3% and 4.5%. Local real estate stocks Sun Hung Kai Properties (00016.HK), Hang Lung Properties (00101.HK), and Cheung Kong Holdings (01113.HK) rose by 2.9% to 3.1%.
Travel platforms Tongcheng (00780.HK) and Trip.com (09961.HK) rose by 5.1% and 3.9%. Airline stocks Air China (00753.HK) discounted 6.6% to place over 1.6% of shares in Cathay Pacific (00293.HK), which fell by 2.6%. Air China rose by 2%. Goldwind (02208.HK) disclosed that its subsidiary holds approximately 4.14% of shares in Landspace, with its stock price rising by 5.7%
