VW Group delivers nearly one million battery-electric vehicles in 2025

With a 32% increase compared to the 744,800 battery-electric vehicles delivered in 2024, the VW Group has returned to its growth trajectory. In 2024, global electric vehicle sales had declined by 3.4%, but the group has now achieved a clear upturn. The Wolfsburg-based group shared this information in advance via LinkedIn. The full delivery figures report, including all brand and regional data, will be published on 20 January.The Volkwasgen brand itself managed to deliver around 382,000 fully electric vehicles worldwide in 2025, marking a slight decrease of -0.2 per cent. Fully electric models thus accounted for 8.1 per cent of total deliveries from the German brand. VW managed to increase its sales in Europe at a rate of +5.1 per cent and South America (+18.5 per cent), but the market environment in China took a dive of –8.4 per cent. Meanwhile, the US tariffs and falling subsidies had a marked impact on deliveries in North America, marking another drop of –8.2 per cent, but the German manufacturer is hardly the only company experiencing this.The electric vehicle statistics are now positive: in 2025, nearly one in nine new vehicles from the group was a BEV. With 10.9%, the share of battery-electric vehicles across the group has reached double digits for the first time, increasing by 2.7 percentage points compared to 2024, as shown in the graphic published on LinkedIn. However, the rising BEV share is not solely due to strong electric vehicle sales: across all drive types, the Wolfsburg-based group delivered 0.5% fewer cars than in 2024. With 8.98 million deliveries, the group once again fell just short of the nine-million mark.While the VW Group has not yet broken down the statistics in detail by market and drive type, it achieved noticeable growth in Europe. Sales of 3.38 million vehicles across all group brands represent a 3.8% increase compared to 2024, while battery-electric vehicle deliveries surged by 66%, as mentioned. In contrast, VW lost ground in China and the USA, where sales declined by 8% and 10.4%, respectively. In China, the group delivered 2.69 million vehicles, while in North America, the German automaker fell below the one-million mark with 946,800 vehicles.
