Wikimedia Foundation Partners with Major Tech Firms for AI Model Training
According to PANews, the Wikimedia Foundation has announced agreements with several major AI companies, including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Meta, to utilize Wikipedia content for training large-scale models via the Wikimedia Enterprise platform. New partners also include Mistral AI and Perplexity. This initiative aims to address the trend of reduced traffic due to AI-generated summaries and to provide sustainable revenue for the foundation. Wikipedia is currently the only platform among the world's top ten websites operated by a non-profit organization, boasting over 15 billion monthly visits and more than 65 million articles.
