Solana's roadmap aims to transform it into an exchange-grade environment, enabling its native on-chain Centralized Limit Order Book (CLOB) to rival centralized exchanges (CEXs) in terms of latency, liquidity depth, and fairness. The following are all the upgrades that achieve this goal. Alpenglow: Consensus Architecture Reform Alpenglow represents the most significant protocol-level change in Solana's history. It introduces a completely new consensus architecture built around two components: Votor and Rotor. Votor has revolutionized the way the network reaches consensus. Instead of chaining multiple rounds of voting together, validators aggregate the voting results off-chain and complete the final confirmation within one or two rounds. Theoretically, the final confirmation time can be reduced to 100-150 milliseconds, far lower than the previous 12.8 seconds. Votor runs two block confirmation paths in parallel. If a block receives overwhelming support (more than 80% of the stake) in the first round, it is confirmed immediately. If the support rate is between 60% and 80%, a second round begins. If the support rate in the second round also exceeds 60%, the block is confirmed. This design ensures that the block can be eventually confirmed even if some nodes in the network are unresponsive. Rotor revolutionized the way blocks are propagated, routing messages directly through high-stakes validators with reliable bandwidth. </p><p><img src="https://imageproxy.pbkrs.com/https://img.jinse.com.cn/7427354_watermarknone.png?x-oss-process=image/auto-orient,1/interlace,1/resize,w_1440,h_1440/quality,q_95/format,jpg" width="600" height="337" original-src="https://imageproxy.pbkrs.com/https://img.jinse.com.cn/7427354_watermarknone.png"/></p><p><strong>Alpenglow also introduces a &#34;20+20&#34; resilience model</strong>: security is guaranteed as long as malicious stake does not exceed 20% of the total stake; even if another 20% of the stake is offline, transaction finality is still guaranteed. This means that even if up to 40% of the stake in the network is in a malicious or inactive state, Alpenglow can maintain transaction finality.</p><p>In the Alpenglow architecture, the proof-of-history mechanism has actually been abandoned, replaced by deterministic time slot scheduling and local timers.</p><p> **This upgrade is expected to launch between early and mid-2026.** Firedancer: Runtime Improvements **Since its inception, Solana has relied on a single validator client (now called Agave). This monolithic approach has long been one of the network's core weaknesses. Any vulnerability or failure at the client level could cripple the entire network.** Firedancer is the second standalone validator client developed by Jump, written in C++. Its design goal is to transform Solana's validator into a deterministic, high-throughput engine capable of handling millions of TPS with minimal latency fluctuations. Frankendancer, as a transitional solution, combines Firedancer's network and block generation modules with Agave's runtime and consensus components. As Firedancer gradually moves towards mainnet readiness, validator diversity should increase significantly. Against this competitive backdrop, both teams have undertaken numerous iterative updates. DoubleZero: High-Performance Fiber Infrastructure DoubleZero is a private network overlay that connects validator nodes via dedicated fiber optic cables, similar to the microsecond-level transmission infrastructure relied upon by traditional exchanges like Nasdaq and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. As the set of validator nodes grows, message propagation becomes more challenging. The more nodes there are, the more targets there are, which introduces time inconsistencies in the network. DoubleZero eliminates this inconsistency by transmitting messages through optimal paths, rather than having messages repeatedly hop across the public internet. Alpenglow's finality model relies on validators receiving and responding to messages within strict time windows. If propagation is inconsistent, votes arrive late, the formation of a quorum slows down, and the time required for final confirmation is extended. DoubleZero reduces the latency gap between validators, enabling Votors to complete final confirmation faster and Rotors to propagate more evenly. DoubleZero also supports multicast, which replicates data within the network and delivers it to validators simultaneously. Block Building: BAM and Harmonic Two complementary trends are reshaping Solana's block building layer: BAM (Block Assembly Marketplace) is Jito's reimagining of the Solana transaction pipeline. Unlike letting slot leaders unilaterally determine the order, BAM inserts a market and privacy layer that separates ordering from execution. Transactions are imported into a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), meaning that validators and builders cannot see the original transaction content until the ordering takes effect. This prevents speculative pre-execution behavior such as front-running. Harmonic focuses on another aspect of the process: who builds the blocks. It introduces an open block builder aggregation layer, allowing validators to accept block proposals from multiple competing builders in real time. Harmonic can be understood as a meta-market, while BAM can be understood as a micro-market. Raiku: Deterministic Execution Guarantees. Raiku fills the remaining gap. While Solana solves most throughput bottlenecks, it doesn't inherently provide deterministic latency or programmable execution guarantees for specific applications. Bringing Capital Markets On-Chain Solana still dominates the hyperscale blockchain space, but this dominance is meaningless without users and an efficient on-chain market. While the vast majority of Meme coins are still traded on Solana, the on-chain perpetual contract trading market is rapidly consolidating into a few exchanges. To compete with centralized platforms, performance must be on par. We believe the Solana ecosystem is aware of this and remains optimistic about closing the gap. Upgrades in the pipeline are promising, and we expect new Solana-native perpetual contracts like BULK to launch early next year. Furthermore, retail demand for trading spot assets on Solana remains strong. While Hyperliquid currently dominates the perpetual contract market, Solana has become the preferred L1 network for trading any spot pair. While centralized exchanges (CEXs) still hold a commanding lead, Solana remains the preferred on-chain trading platform. Products like xStocks are bringing on-chain equities directly to Solana. Liquidity, price discovery, and speculative attention are concentrating on a single chain that offers faster settlement, a better user experience, and more concentrated capital. This is the reason Solana is bringing capital markets on-chain.</p></div></div></div>
