Apple plans to reshape Siri this year, transforming it into the company's first AI chatbot.
On January 21, Bloomberg reported, citing informed sources, that Apple plans to unveil a new AI chatbot codenamed Campos at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with an official launch in September.
The new AI chatbot will replace the existing interface, allowing users to summon the service via the voice command &#34;Siri&#34; or by pressing the device's side button, but its capabilities will far exceed the current version, featuring conversational interaction abilities similar to ChatGPT or Google Gemini.
Analysts believe that this AI chatbot will be the core of Apple's AI market turnaround plan. The Apple Intelligence platform launched by Apple in 2024 has performed poorly, with lackluster features and a slow rollout.
Stimulated by news of the AI chatbot, Apple's stock price rose nearly 2% at one point, before narrowing its gains. The stock price of Google's parent company Alphabet, which provides the underlying technology for the project, rose by 2%.

According to reports, the new AI chatbot will be a major new feature in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 (codenamed Rave), and macOS 27 (codenamed Fizz).
Reports cite informed sources stating that Apple is testing chatbot technology as a standalone Siri application internally, similar to ChatGPT and Gemini in the App Store, but does not plan to offer the application to users; instead, the software will be integrated into the entire operating system.
The new Siri will support both voice and text interaction modes, featuring capabilities similar to ChatGPT and Google Gemini, including web searches, content creation, image generation, information summarization, and document analysis.
It will also be able to access personal data to complete tasks, making it easier to locate specific files, songs, calendar events, and messages.
Unlike third-party chatbots running on Apple devices, the new Siri can analyze open windows and screen content to perform actions and suggest commands, as well as control device functions and settings, such as making calls, setting timers, and launching the camera.
More importantly, Siri will be integrated into all of Apple's core applications, including Mail, Music, Podcasts, TV, Xcode programming software, and Photos.
This will allow users to complete more tasks using only their voice. For example, users can ask Siri to find photos based on content descriptions and edit them according to specific preferences, such as cropping and color adjustment; or request Siri to draft a message to friends about upcoming schedules in the email application.
The new AI chatbot may also lead Apple to eliminate the Spotlight feature, which currently allows users to search device content and query limited information, such as sports scores and weather details
It is worth noting that AI chatbots will remember how much information about users to retain. ChatGPT and other conversational AI tools can retain a large memory of past interactions, allowing them to utilize conversations and personal details when fulfilling requests.
Reports indicate that for privacy reasons, Apple is considering significantly limiting this feature.
<h2>Relying on Google Technology While Retaining Flexibility</h2>
The new chatbot will adopt a user interface designed by Apple but will rely on a custom AI model developed by Google's Gemini team.
Wallstreetcn mentions that a multi-year partnership agreement with Google will allow Apple to leverage the Gemini model and Google Cloud technology to support future versions of Apple Foundation Models.
The new AI chatbot will run a high-end version of the custom Google model, comparable to Gemini 3, internally referred to as Apple Foundation Models version 11. Apple pays about $1 billion annually to Google for the rights to use these models.
Reportedly, Apple's new AI chatbot will be directly hosted on servers running Google TPU chips. In contrast, the earlier released Siri updates will run on Apple's own Private Cloud Compute servers, which rely on high-end Mac chips for processing.
Apple is designing a new AI chatbot so that its underlying model can be swapped out over time. This means the company can flexibly choose not to use the Google-driven system in the future.
<h2>Organizational Restructuring and Talent Acquisition</h2>
This strategic shift is accompanied by changes in Apple's leadership.
Wallstreetcn mentions that John Giannandrea, who has long served as the head of AI, stepped down last December, with Craig Federighi, the senior vice president responsible for software engineering, consolidating control over Apple's AI efforts.
The company has also hired Amar Subramanya as vice president of AI, reporting to Federighi. He previously helped lead the engineering work for Gemini at Google.
Federighi stated in an interview last June that releasing a chatbot was never the company's goal, and Apple did not want to &#34;send users into some kind of chat experience just to get the job done.&#34; However, facing competitive pressure, Apple has adjusted its stance
