Hong Kong will host the APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting for the first time in October
The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau announced that the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers' Meeting will be held in Hong Kong this October, marking the first time Hong Kong will host this high-level international financial meeting. The "APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting Preparatory Working Steering Committee," chaired by Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau Secretary Christopher Hui, held its first meeting on the same day to officially launch the preparatory work.
Christopher Hui stated at the meeting that 2026 is the "China Year" for APEC, and the theme of the meeting is "Building a Community of the Asia-Pacific and Promoting Shared Prosperity." He pointed out that Hong Kong's ability to host the Finance Ministers' Meeting for the first time is a recognition of Hong Kong as an international financial center by the country.
The Steering Committee is composed of senior representatives from 20 policy bureaus, departments, and agencies, responsible for coordinating inter-departmental cooperation and providing advice for the meeting's preparations. During the meeting, the committee reviewed the preliminary preparatory work and discussed various specific matters such as venue arrangements, accommodation, security deployment, and publicity strategies for the Finance Ministers' Meeting.
According to a previous announcement by the Central People's Government, as the host of the 2026 APEC meeting, the country will hold this Finance Ministers' Meeting in Hong Kong under the model of being organized by the Ministry of Finance and hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. The country will be responsible for preparing and presiding over this year's APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting, a series of ministerial meetings, and other related meetings
