<div id="readability-page-1"><div>The year is only a few weeks old and already Genesis has seen much in the way of news. Along with the brand’s arrival in a further four European countries during 2026, there is now a new CEO, Sihyeok Lee. ‘Sean’, the name he uses outside South Korea, has been tasked with lifting global sales to 350,000 vehicles a year by 2030. Also, for reasons unknown, many media continue to incorrectly report 2035 for this target.Elevating worldwide deliveries by more than 100,000 cars and SUVs compared to the result for 2025 (221,482) looks possible. The ROK remains the top market, the tally for last year being 118,395, followed by the USA, which, at 82,331, was a new record.As well as the big two, nations such as Canada (circa 8,000), Saudi Arabia (close to 5,000), Australia (1,602) and even the UK (1,225) each contributed at a more modest level. China remains difficult, with no local production and fewer than 1,000 vehicles sold last year.Which markets could be next?A potential market launch in India would be worthwhile, with sales of luxury vehicles there constantly on the rise, albeit to only small levels due to various ongoing factors. Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Sweden and Norway could be other markets where Hyundai might attempt to introduce its luxury marque.A theoretical return to Russia would also greatly aid the overall target, this being a country where Genesis performed very well indeed before HMG withdrew its brands. In 2021, there was a year on year surge of 248 per cent to 4,480 vehicles, though we all know what then happened in 2022.The best thing Hyundai Motor could do for Genesis is give it more models, and keep what already exists fresh via timely facelifts and powertrain updates. That certainly seems to be the plan, while interestingly, a couple of older and/or poorly performing cars will have some attention rather than be chopped. One such is the G70.A ten-year old Genesis?Should production of the brand’s smallest sedan and wagon continue until September 2027, Genesis would have a decade-old model in its line-up. Work on RN2, an electric replacement, was reportedly stopped in 2024. Instead, a new generation could now arrive in 2028: still an EV but with a range-extending back-up engine.In what may seem to be a surprising development, the existing IK series four- and five-door cars are said to be getting another refresh. The code for these revised models is IK PE2 (PE means facelift and this would be its second restyle). Keeping the G70 in the BMW 3 Series segment would be a sensible move, IK PE2 remaining a sort of place-holder until a follow-up with that electrified option arrives.A little shorter than the G70, the GV60 is Genesis’ entry level SUV. And until the GV90 appears, it also remains the sole electric-only model. There is in fact a large question mark over the fate of this medium sized EV. Sales in Europe, the US and Korea are far from strong so its replacement will almost certainly see a hybrid and/or range extender option become available.A GV60 successor in 2028?Look to 2028 for the debut of the GV60’s replacement. And while many wonder when a GV40 or GV50 will arrive, there are no official plans to enter the 4.1-4.3 m long segment. However, if the current line-up doesn’t work well in the newer European markets, a small-ish SUV will probably be fast-tracked.Things could improve for the JW1 series GV60 if the Magma variant manages to draw both attention and sales interest to this crossover/SUV. Launched in the home market just a week ago, this dramatic-looking variant has vast power, a 264 km/h top speed and 448 kW with up to 790 Nm thanks to two motors. Exports to the US, Canada and Europe are due to commence by mid-year.The GV70 and GV80 continue to be very good performers in both of Genesis’ top two markets. Build of a GV70 EREV is said to still be on schedule for HMGMA’s Georgia factory commencing in December. Then comes production in South Korea commencing in March 2027 though the latter could instead be a hybrid.Larger SUVsAs for the bigger GV80 and its coupe-SUV brother, Magma variants should appear in 2027 after a facelift for the existing line-up later in 2026. Also, production of the as yet unseen GV80 Hybrid and GV80 Coupe Hybrid is set to start in September. Successors are due to start appearing in 2029, the code for the next generation GV80 being JX2. Electric and Hybrid power is expected. Build could be in both Korea and the USA.Going one size up now, recent reports claim there might be a last-minute delay to revealing the GV90. While it had been expected to premiere at the New York Auto Show, the debut could instead take place rather later than April. None of this is official information, and sources also indicate that the coach-doors body style, understood to be a separate model, may not become available until 2027.Will there also be a GV90 Hybrid? For now, it would seem the big SUV will only be electric, something which will hinder its potential in Genesis’ two big markets. However it is believed that Hyundai has already started work on adapting the platform for compatibility with an EREV system.A bespoke division?There might be a few high-priced niche Genesis vehicles to come too. The first would logically be the coach-doors version of the JG1 GV90. The same rule might apply to an estate version of the next G90, as heralded by the Wingback concept from late last year (see image).Other potential vehicles for a super-luxury series might include production versions of the gorgeous X Coupe and X Convertible concepts from 2022. Some sources have stated that a combined 500 cars will be made though this project could just as likely have been shelved.We shouldn’t forget about the X Gran Equator Concept which premiered at the New York auto show in April 2025. An elevated estate in the style of the AMC Eagle from long ago, this oddly-proportioned SUV might wear a GV75 or GV85 badge. Look to 2028 or 2029 for its potential market launch.Big cars, and a supercarComing back to cars, the G80 will have a second facelift in 2027, its successor now delayed until 2029. That sedan, the development code for which is said to be RG4, will reportedly have a 100 kWh solid-state battery in a CTB (Cells To Body) package. The architecture is believed to be eM, which was originally intended to be electric-only. Now though, hybrid/EREV power is also said to be in the mix.Looking at the largest sedan, the G90 will be facelifted later in 2026 and then go to a new generation in 2028 or 2029. It would be a gutsy move if Genesis does offer a wagon body, even in very small volume and we might then see Audi, BMW and/or Mercedes try their luck in the same way come the early 2030s.Finally, a mid-engined supercar is probably also coming but not until 2028 or 2029. The Magma GT concept from two months ago signalled the look. As for what will power it, some kind of electrification is expected, probably hybrid power.
