Chen Meibao: The new provisions for mandatory seatbelt use have shortcomings and will be removed; they will be submitted to the Legislative Council after improvement
The law requiring bus passengers to wear seat belts has sparked social controversy. The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Lam Sai-hung, responded to reporters today (30th) by stating that after consulting the Department of Justice, it was found that the legal provisions were technically inadequate and did not fully reflect the legislative intent. The relevant provisions will be deleted and improved before being submitted to the Legislative Council for consultation. There will temporarily be no statutory requirement for bus passengers to wear seat belts
