It is reported that Tesla plans to increase solar cell production capacity and is evaluating the establishment of factories in multiple locations in the United States
According to sources familiar with the matter, Tesla (TSLA.US) is evaluating multiple locations in the United States to initiate solar cell manufacturing. Tesla's stock rose 3.5% on Friday.
Sources indicate that one component of the plan is to expand the production capacity of the factory located in Buffalo, New York. The factory's capacity is expected to increase to 10 gigawatts, equivalent to the power generation capacity of 10 nuclear power plants. In the long term, one of the proposals may involve building a second facility in New York State.
The report also mentioned that Arizona and Idaho are also considered locations. The related project is led by Tesla Vice President Bonne Eggleston, who recently posted on LinkedIn that he is hiring for local solar manufacturing positions.
Founder Elon Musk stated on Thursday that SpaceX and Tesla will produce solar energy and are working towards an annual solar cell production target of 100 gigawatts
