Canada's Manulife posts lower quarterly profit on North America weakness (Feb 11)

Manulife Financial reported a lower fourth-quarter profit, impacted by weakness in its Canada and U.S. units, with profits down 43% and 21% respectively. In contrast, Sun Life Financial saw a profit increase due to strong North American performance. Manulife's net income attributable to shareholders was C$1.50 billion, or 83 cents per share, down from C$1.64 billion, or 88 cents per share, a year earlier.
