Swift: In January, the share of RMB in global payments rose to 3.13%, making it the fifth most active currency in the world
The Global Banking Financial Telecommunication Association (Swift) released its monthly report and data statistics on the renminbi on February 19 local time, showing that in January 2026, the renminbi ranked fifth in the global payment currency ranking based on amount, with a share of 3.13%, moving up one position from December 2025. Compared to December 2025, the total amount of renminbi payments increased by 11.44%, while the total amount of payments in all currencies decreased by 2.68%. When considering international payments outside the Eurozone as the statistical basis, in January 2026, the renminbi ranked sixth with a share of 2.42%. (Shanghai Securities Journal)
