News: "A Symphony of Lights" may end this year, and the Hong Kong Tourism Board will launch a brand new light and shadow parade performance
The new "Budget Proposal" suggests allocating HKD 1.66 billion to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, which will increase the scale and promotion of flagship events, introduce new highlights, and extend the duration of activities. In response to the popularity of last year's "Illuminated Hong Kong - Central" large-scale 3D light show, the Tourism Board will launch a new performance themed around light and shadow tours to replace "A Symphony of Lights," which will be held on different days and locations throughout the year.
Reports indicate that "A Symphony of Lights," which has been held since 2004, will end after the new performance is fully launched, potentially completing its "historical mission" as early as this year. Regarding the budget proposal from two years ago that allocated approximately HKD 350 million to revamp "A Symphony of Lights," sources say that if it is just about lighting effects, it is difficult to achieve breakthroughs, hence the decision to replace it with a brand new performance.
As for the location of the new light and shadow performance, sources indicate that authorities are looking at various attractions, with the main principle being that there are commercial activities nearby, allowing the performance to benefit local businesses. They will also consider whether the performance will impact nearby residential areas. For example, Chater Garden in Central and the Tsim Sha Tsui area are potential suitable locations.
Sources indicate that the new performance will use previously approved funding, and the Tourism Board will also strengthen its promotion to potential markets, including cities outside Guangdong Province, ASEAN, and emerging markets in the Middle East, to attract overnight visitors
