Citigroup raises global AI capital expenditure and revenue forecasts for 2026 to 2030
Citigroup (C.US) raised its global artificial intelligence (AI) capital expenditure and revenue forecasts for 2026 to 2030, pointing out that AI tools will rapidly advance, opening new application scenarios for enterprises and accelerating the adoption of agent systems and workflows.
The bank revised its global AI capital expenditure forecast for the period from the previous USD 800 billion to USD 890 billion, noting that large-scale enterprises, including Amazon (AMZN.US), Microsoft (MSFT.US), Google's parent company Alphabet (GOOGL.US), and Meta Platforms (META.US), will have total capital expenditures exceeding USD 630 billion this year.
Citigroup also predicts that global AI revenue during the period will rise from the previous estimate of USD 2.8 trillion to USD 3.3 trillion. AI startup Anthropic is expected to achieve an annualized revenue of USD 26 billion this year, while OpenAI has stated that its annualized revenue rate has surpassed USD 25 billion, higher than last year's USD 21.4 billion.
The bank believes that the poor performance of large-scale enterprises after the sell-off of tech stocks last month due to AI has created investment opportunities
