According to reports, Alibaba's Qianwen senior executive Yu Bowen has joined ByteDance

According to domestic media reports, Yu Bowen, the post-training head of Qwen (Qianwen) large model at Alibaba (09988.HK) subsidiary Tongyi Lab, has joined ByteDance and will serve as the post-training head of the Seed team's visual model and multimodal interaction team.

It is reported that the Seed team is the core department for artificial intelligence (AI) research and development at ByteDance, currently led by former Google DeepMind research vice president Wu Yonghui. He participated in the development of the Gemini large model and officially joined ByteDance in February last year, taking over the Seed team and reporting directly to ByteDance CEO Liang Rubo.

As for the departure of Qianwen employees from Alibaba, it is reported that Tongyi Lab had previously initiated an organizational restructuring, planning to split the Qwen team into multiple parallel modules for pre-training, post-training, text, and multimodal tasks, while also adjusting the assessment and responsibility scope of the Qianwen team. The management scope of the original Qwen large model heads Lin Junyang and Yu Bowen was significantly reduced, after which both announced their resignations
