U.S. Introduces New Reactor Licensing Framework to Streamline Nuclear Power Construction
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is introducing an entirely new reactor licensing format designed to speed up the approval of next-generation reactor technologies. The process, known as “Part 53,” is the agency’s first new framework for approving reactors since 1989 and is part of a broader U.S. plan to expand nuclear power generation, according to a statement released on March 25.
