Tanker Attacked by Missiles Near Qatar's Northern Coast

Iran's attacks on commercial vessels in the Gulf region are escalating, with the scope now extending to Qatari territorial waters. According to CCTV News, on April 1st local time, Qatar's Ministry of Defense confirmed that Qatar was attacked by three cruise missiles from Iran that day. Qatar successfully intercepted two of them, while the third missile struck a tanker leased by QatarEnergy, docked within Qatar's northern territorial waters. Qatari authorities immediately evacuated all 21 crew members on board, and there were no casualties. QatarEnergy subsequently issued a statement confirming that the tanker leased by the company, Aqua 1, was attacked by missiles in Qatar's northern territorial waters in the early hours of the day. All crew members on board were unharmed, and the incident caused no environmental impact. No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Following this attack, oil prices did not show significant fluctuations. Influenced by signals of de-escalation released by both the US and Iran, oil prices experienced a notable decline today. The attack on the QatarEnergy tanker is the latest in a recent wave of strikes against commercial shipping in the Gulf region. Just the day before the incident, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation confirmed that a Kuwaiti tanker fully loaded with crude oil was attacked while anchored in Dubai port, causing the ship to catch fire and sustain damage. All 24 crew members were safely evacuated. Since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in February 2026, commercial vessels in the Gulf region and along the Strait of Hormuz have been continuously subjected to attacks by missiles, drones, and explosive boats. Affected waters include the offshore areas of the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. Several vessels caught fire or suffered structural damage during these attacks, but most incidents did not result in casualties.
