Hyperscale cloud service providers and cloud computing providers have allocated all available CPUs to AI enterprises, leading to shortages in both enterprise-grade and consumer-grade processors.
Unlike the memory market where there is &#34;high price but availability,&#34; processors have fallen into a &#34;high price but no market&#34; dilemma, posing a direct threat to laptop manufacturers and the industrial PC market.
Price anomalies have already emerged in the market. The official suggested retail price for AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is $899, yet listings on Amazon have reached $999; Intel's latest Core Ultra 200S Plus series also shows market quotes higher than official pricing. Industry experts warn, this situation may persist for quite some time.

The root cause of this shortage lies in the structural shift of production priority. Citing supply chain sources, Digitimes reports that the most severe shortage currently affects Intel's Raptor Lake series launched in 2022—this series has long dominated the market due to its outstanding cost-performance ratio.
However, insiders reveal that delivery cycles for Raptor Lake have become meaningless; placing an order does not guarantee eventual receipt of goods.
Representatives from the notebook supply chain state that all parties do not expect further price increases in the short term, as the core issue constraining shipments is product availability rather than cost.
<h2>Intel's Key to Breaking Through: 18A Process Yield</h2>
Intel's response strategy heavily relies on the progress of the 18A process node. According to Digitimes, the outlook for Intel and its partners largely hinges on the successful implementation of this new process.
Intel has already launched its first client processor product lines based on 18A, including Panther Lake for the high-end market and Wildcat Lake for entry-level PCs.
However, the actual results of this release were disappointing—there were very few Wildcat Lake notebook products, and Panther Lake notebooks were priced significantly higher, driven primarily by the combination of processor shortages and rising memory prices.
Notably, although Panther Lake is based on the 18A process, it still partially relies on TSMC modules; Wildcat Lake similarly adopts a hybrid architecture combining 18A and TSMC solutions.
This means that until the yield rate of the 18A process improves substantially, Intel's supply pressure cannot be fundamentally resolved. Against this backdrop, Intel is advancing the Arrow Lake series as its main product line targeting the PC and industrial markets.
