China created 2.99 million new urban jobs in Q1 2026, maintaining an unemployment rate of 5.3%, as reported by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. This performance aligns with Beijing's target of 5.5% unemployment and over 12 million new jobs for the year. The government is focusing on supporting college graduates with job fairs and transportation for migrant workers. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Composite index decreased by 0.1% and the Shenzhen Component fell by 0.8%.
