Hong Kong Stocks Close Mixed; AI Cloud Plays Surge as REALORD Tech Soars 57%

Hong Kong's three major indices closed mixed on July 31, with the Hang Seng Index nearly flat while the tech gauge edged higher. At the close, the Hang Seng Index inched up 0.10%, or 25 points, to 25,884.43, with full-day turnover reaching HK$328.2 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index slipped 0.38% to 8,612.15, while the Hang Seng Tech Index added 0.53% to 4,829.22.

AI and cloud computing plays staged a broad-based rally, with Kingsoft Cloud surging nearly 16%, Zhipu jumping close to 15%, Meitu rallying over 10%, and Lenovo Group climbing nearly 10%. The semiconductor supply chain also firmed. Big tech names diverged, with Alibaba up nearly 5% and Tencent slightly higher, while Xiaomi tumbled over 7%. On the flip side, mainland Chinese banks gave back recent gains — Agricultural Bank of China fell over 3%, while ICBC and CCB both shed more than 1%. Oil stocks also weakened.

AI Concept Stocks Surge Across the Board; Kingsoft Cloud Up Nearly 16%, Zhipu Jumps ~15%

At the close, Kingsoft Cloud (03896.HK) soared 15.74% to HK$5.81; Zhipu (02513.HK) rallied 14.56% to HK$987.5; Meitu (01357.HK) rose 10.28% to HK$4.72; Chinasoft International (00354.HK) gained 6.50% to HK$3.93; Unisound AI (09678.HK) surged 13.29% to HK$75.45; and SenseTime-W (00020.HK) added 2.84% to HK$1.45.

On the news front, Unisound AI secured contracts for the Nanning Module Space project and the Xiamen AI public platform project, with combined contract value exceeding RMB 20 million, marking the cross-regional replication of its regional MaaS business model. Overseas, Amazon reported AWS revenue up 37% year-on-year to US$42.2 billion, with CEO Andy Jassy stressing that AI demand will grow significantly through 2028 and raising full-year capex guidance to US$220 billion. TSMC ADRs also jumped over 7% on advanced packaging technology news. Multiple catalysts drove strong fund inflows into AI computing and cloud service names.

Semiconductor Supply Chain Firms; SMIC Gains 2%

At the close, SMIC (00981.HK) rose 2.02% to HK$63.25; Kingboard Laminates (01888.HK) edged up 0.96% to HK$29.42, after touching an intraday high of HK$36.5 before pulling back sharply. Zhongji Innolight H-shares (03308.HK) jumped 7.08% to HK$1,028, rebounding notably from the previous session's break below the IPO price, with turnover exceeding HK$8.1 billion.

Big Tech Diverges; Alibaba Up Nearly 5%, Xiaomi Tumbles Over 7%

At the close, Alibaba-W (09988.HK) climbed 4.65% to HK$117, the best performer among tech heavyweights; Lenovo Group (00992.HK) surged 9.75% to HK$23.86; Tencent Holdings (00700.HK) edged up 0.72% to HK$475.2. On the other side, Xiaomi-W (01810.HK) tumbled 7.28% to HK$28.78. Nomura noted that Xiaomi's launch of the Pengcheng series extended-range electric vehicle marks a shift from BEV to EREV, but maintained a "Neutral" rating with a HK$33 target price.

Mainland Banks Retreat; Oil Stocks Weaken

At the close, Agricultural Bank of China (01288.HK) fell 3.07% to HK$6.31; ICBC (01398.HK) dropped 1.70% to HK$7.51; China Construction Bank (00939.HK) declined 1.60% to HK$9.21; Bank of China (03988.HK) dipped 0.54% to HK$5.51. Oil stocks also weakened in tandem, with PetroChina (00857.HK) down 2.07% to HK$9.94 and Sinopec (00386.HK) down 0.67% to HK$4.43.

REALORD TECH Rockets Nearly 57%, Leading Volatile Movers

At the close, REALORD TECH (01196.HK) skyrocketed 56.70% to HK$7.02, with turnover exceeding HK$730 million. The stock opened lower at HK$4.08 before staging a dramatic intraday surge, hitting a session high of HK$7.14 in an exceptionally strong showing.
