GPU/CPU Sector Slides in Night Session, NVDA Down Nearly 2%, INTC Over 2%, MRVL Nearly 6%

During the US night session on August 21, the GPU/CPU sector weakened broadly, with mainstream stocks mostly closing lower. As of press time, NVIDIA (NVDA.US) traded at $214.72, down $1.08 or 0.50%; Intel (INTC.US) was at $90.07, down $2.06 or 2.24%; and Marvell (MRVL.US) fell to $237.04, down $13.97 or 5.57%.

Among other components, AMD (AMD.US) rose 0.81% to $473.25, one of the few gainers in the sector; Broadcom (AVGO.US) gained 1.21% to $368.45; ARM (ARM.US) dropped 2.95% to $243.32; and Qualcomm (QCOM.US) slipped 0.46% to $160.75. Server maker Dell (DELL.US) advanced 1.68% to $442.08.

Leveraged products moved in line with underlying stocks, with two-times long NVDA ETF NVDL.US down 1.89% and two-times short NVDA ETF NVDD.US up 1.75% in the night session. Overall, sentiment in the chip sector remained cautious during the night session, with most stocks retreating except for AMD, Broadcom, and Dell. Investors should watch for further impact from upcoming earnings guidance and macroeconomic data.
