ByteDance’s AI-powered office business has undergone a new round of adjustments.
On August 24, ByteDance completed the integration of teams for its office AI products, with the TRAE and Coze teams fully merging into the Doubao ecosystem. Following this adjustment, TRAE Work and Coze will integrate their product capabilities into work scenarios under Doubao. TRAE IDE and CLI will continue to develop as part of the programming product line and will be incorporated under the Doubao brand. The relevant product and operations teams will now uniformly report to Zhao Qi, the head of Doubao products.
ByteDance also stated that this adjustment further clarifies Doubao’s positioning as the core AI business. The company will concentrate its focus on AI office products under the Doubao brand. Doubao is expected to launch its standalone AI office product, “Doubao Work,” as early as this week, serving as ByteDance’s unified product and brand for AI office scenarios.
In response to this adjustment, ByteDance explained that the integration aims to better coordinate product and technical resources, providing users with a higher-quality AI work experience, while ensuring that existing user benefits remain unaffected. Viewing the multiple adjustments over the past year, the merger of TRAE and Coze is not an isolated team change but a continuation of ByteDance’s strategy to establish Doubao as the main line and consolidate its AI productivity products.
In September 2025, Zhao Qi began overseeing Doubao products, coordinating mobile, PC, and model strategy products. At that time, to strengthen the synergy between Doubao and the Feishu office suite, relevant product heads from Feishu adopted a dotted-line reporting relationship to Zhao Qi. The connection between Doubao and ByteDance’s existing office businesses first unfolded within the management system.
On July 30 this year, this synergy was further upgraded. ByteDance merged the Feishu product team with the Doubao product team to form a new Doubao product team, led by Zhao Qi, with Feishu head Xie Xin reporting to him.
Meanwhile, Feishu’s marketing, sales, and customer service teams merged with related teams from Volcano Engine to establish a unified Go-To-Market (GTM) organization for the enterprise market, responsible for the commercialization of ByteDance’s MaaS and SaaS businesses.
This adjustment effectively formed two relatively clear pathways: on the product side, AI assistants and office scenarios are integrated around Doubao; on the commercialization side, Volcano Engine uniformly handles enterprise clients.
Feishu’s original products and services remain retained. Its documents, meetings, knowledge bases, organizational relationships, and permission systems provide the foundation for AI integration into enterprise workflows.
On August 6, ByteDance CEO Liang Rubo further explained the business principle of “high priority, strong core, and long-term optimization” at the mid-year all-hands meeting, expressing hope that Doubao would become a “core” business capable of driving other business units in the future. Under this strategy, Doubao’s role is no longer limited to being a general-purpose AI assistant for individual users; it has begun to serve as the product entry point connecting models, office tools, collaboration, and development tools.
The inclusion of TRAE and Coze into the Doubao ecosystem supplements two key capabilities.

The subsequently launched TRAE Work expanded its scope to non-programming tasks such as document processing, research, data analysis, presentation creation, and application generation. Compared to Doubao, which primarily targets end-users, Coze’s value lies more in agent creation, tool connectivity, and workflow configuration.
After merging into Doubao, these capabilities may become components of “Doubao Work,” offering customized services to individuals and enterprises.

From this perspective, this adjustment can be understood as an expansion of Doubao’s business boundaries, but it cannot be simply equated with a completed upgrade in product capabilities. While organizational integration can reduce internal coordination costs, what truly impacts user experience is whether accounts, files, data, permissions, tools, and payment systems across different products can be seamlessly integrated.
External competition is pushing tech giants to reduce internal product overlap.

The focus of competition in AI office products is shifting from model-based Q&A to long-task execution, local and cloud file processing, third-party tool connectivity, and enterprise data retrieval.
From Zhao Qi taking over Doubao products, to the merger of the Feishu product team, and now the inclusion of TRAE and Coze into the Doubao ecosystem, ByteDance’s adjustment path has become quite clear: Doubao is positioned as the core AI business, with previously scattered productivity capabilities gradually reorganized around this main line.
However, whether a “super entry point” can truly be formed will ultimately be proven by the product rather than the organizational structure. The upcoming launch of “Doubao Work” will serve as the first important window to test this round of integration.
