Sui Agent Payments Expands To Alibaba Cloud, Allowing AI Agents To Spend USDC Based On Usage

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Sui Network has integrated Alibaba Cloud into its Agent Payments infrastructure, enabling AI agents to pay for cloud services using USDC on a per-call basis. Announced at Sui Basecamp, this partnership allows machine-to-machine transactions via the x402 protocol, offering granular spending controls and eliminating traditional subscription models. This move supports the growing ecosystem of autonomous AI agents requiring seamless, on-chain financial interactions.

Sui Agent Payments Brings Alibaba Cloud Services Into Per-Use Stablecoin Payments

Cloud services could soon be paid for in much smaller increments as Sui integrates Alibaba Cloud into its Agent Payments infrastructure, allowing AI agents to pay for individual service calls with stablecoins.

The partnership was announced at the Sui Basecamp event on 7 October 2026 and is designed around machine-to-machine payments, where an agent can access a service, make an authorised payment and receive the requested resource without requiring a traditional subscription or merchant account.

AI Agents Can Pay Alibaba Cloud Per Service Call

Under the system, users first give an agent an expenditure account with preset limits.

These controls can include the services the agent can access, its total spending budget, a maximum amount per transaction and an expiry time.

Once authorised, the agent can pay for Alibaba Cloud resources based on actual usage.

Payments are made in USDC and settled directly on the Sui network before the requested service is delivered.

The payment process uses x402, which repurposes the HTTP 402 status code as a request for payment.

When a service is requested, the gateway returns HTTP 402, checks the agent's authorisation and completes the transaction before allowing the upstream service to run.

Resources are delivered after confirmation of the on-chain payment event, while each transaction is linked to a summary that can be viewed through Suiscan.

How Does The Per-Call Payment System Work?

The model is intended to remove the need for agents to rely on prepaid bills, monthly subscriptions or conventional API keys.

Each service has a price for an individual invocation, allowing an agent to compare available services before deciding what to use.

An official example shows that a service priced at $0.001 costs exactly $0.001 per call.

Service information is made available through SKILL.md and JSON endpoints, giving agents access to pricing information.

MCP support also allows the services to be registered with tools such as Claude Code and Codex.

For MCP-based access, sponsors cover the network gas fees, leaving the agent to pay the service cost itself.

On-Chain Limits Give Users Control Over Agent Spending

The payment system also places spending controls at the owner level rather than allowing agents unrestricted access to funds.

Owners can revoke authorisation at any time, while the spending rules are enforced on-chain when payments are settled.

This limits how much an agent can spend and which services it can use even when payments are being carried out automatically.

Imagine this checkout experience: you set a budget, your agent does the rest.

The setup does not require users to register for each individual service, while providers can charge based on usage without opening a conventional merchant account.

Alibaba Cloud is being added to the service directory rather than becoming an exclusive provider within the Sui ecosystem.

Sui And Google Cloud Are Also Building Agent Verification Tools

The Alibaba Cloud integration comes as Sui's core developer Mysten Labs works with Google Cloud on a separate system for verifiable AI agent activity.

The proposed arbitration layer would allow customers to retain control over prompts, model outputs, tool calls and strategy decisions in Google Cloud Storage, while cryptographic proofs are stored through Walrus and coordinated by Sui.

Agent Payments would support this system by recording authorisations, spending and service delivery under the x402 framework.

The official launch date has not yet been announced, with enterprise pilots expected to begin first.

Why Is x402 Becoming Important For AI Payments?

The wider infrastructure behind the partnership is x402, a protocol designed to let software make payments through standard web requests.

The Linux Foundation announced the operational launch of the x402 Foundation on 14 July 2026 after Coinbase handed over the protocol.

Its members include Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Adyen, American Express, Amazon Web Services, Google, Circle and Shopify.

The foundation reported about 75 million transactions worth $24 million over the previous 30 days, with most transactions involving machine calls worth less than $1.

Sui's latest integration applies that model to cloud services, giving AI agents a way to pay automatically for individual tasks instead of relying on larger prepaid balances or recurring subscriptions.
