Tesla's new Model 3: Regulatory filing in China reveals key specs

The new Model 3 is slightly longer than the older model, the battery suppliers are and LG Energy Solution, and information on battery pack capacity is not yet available. (NASDAQ: TSLA) unexpectedly of the revamped Model 3 in China on September 1, but key specification information on the model was unknown. Now, the new Model 3 has made it into a filing catalog with the Chinese industrial regulator, allowing its core specs to be revealed. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released its latest catalog of models that will soon be allowed to be sold in the country for public comment, and Tesla's updated Model 3 is included. The public can submit feedback between September 13 and September 19. Entering the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China. Two versions of the new Model 3 made it into the catalog, with product model numbers TSL7000BEVAR7 and TSL7000BEVBA4. The new Model 3 measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,848 mm in width and 1,442 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm. For comparison, the previously on-sale China-made Model 3 has a length, width and height of 4,694 mm, 1,850 mm, 1,443 mm and a wheelbase of 2,875 mm. The new Model 3 has a 194-kW motor for the single-motor model and an additional 137 kW motor for the dual-motor model, according to the filing. The single-motor version of the new Model 3 is equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries from CATL, while the dual-motor version is equipped with ternary lithium-ion batteries from LG Energy Solution. Information on the capacity of the packs is currently unknown. The single-motor Model 3 weighs 1,760 kg, while the dual-motor version weighs 1,823 kg. It's worth noting that the single-motor version of the new Model 3 is labeled "Tesla Model 3," while the dual-motor version is labeled "Tesla Model 3+." Beyond that, the regulatory filing page doesn't have any more information. The new Model 3 is still offered in two versions, but the previously offered performance version has been dropped and replaced by a dual-motor long-range version, according to Tesla's China website. Pre-sale prices for the entry rear-wheel-drive Model 3 in China start at RMB 259,900 ($35,630), up from RMB 231,900 for the older model. The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive, long-range version of the Model 3 has a pre-sale starting price of RMB 295,900. For comparison, the previously on-sale dual-motor, all-wheel-drive performance version of the Model 3 started at RMB 331,900. The CLTC range of the entry-level version of the new Model 3 is 606 kilometers, up 50 kilometers, or 9 percent, from the old model's 556 kilometers. The long-range version of the new Model 3 has a CLTC range of 713 kilometers, up from 675 kilometers on the previous Model 3 Performance.
