From October 1986 to July 1990, he worked as an auditor in the Audit Department of the Jingzhou Regional Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China. From July 1990 to June 1993, he served as a staff member in the Information Department of the Hubei Provincial Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China. From June 1993 to October 1995, he served as the Deputy Director of the Office of the Hubei Provincial Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China. From January 1999 to February 2000, he served as the Deputy General Manager of the Wuchang Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China in Wuhan. From February 2000 to February 2001, he served as the Deputy General Manager (in charge) of the Bank Card Department of the Wuhan Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China. From February 2001 to November 2004, he served as the President of the Wuchang Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China in Wuhan. From November 2004 to February 2008, he served as the President and Party Secretary of the Enshi Prefecture Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China in Hubei Province. From February 2008 to March 2009, he served as the General Manager of the Credit Card Department of the Hubei Provincial Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China. From March 2009 to May 2010, he served as the General Manager of the Bank Card Center of the Hubei Provincial Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China. From May 2010 to January 2011, he served as the General Manager of the Agricultural Credit Department of the Hubei Provincial Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China.
In April 2011, Li Zhiming moved to Shenzhen Development Bank from the Agricultural Bank of China, serving as the Assistant President of the Wuhan Branch. In March 2012, Li Zhiming transferred to Hubei Bank and served as the Assistant President of Hubei Bank. From May 2016 to December 2017, he served as the Vice President of Hubei Bank.
In December 2017, Li Zhiming joined Guizhou Bank and served as the candidate for the Party Secretary and Chairman of the bank from December 2017 to April 2018. From April 2018 to January 28, 2021, he served as the Party Secretary and Chairman of the bank.
