Shanghai Electric Begins 625MW Power Plant Upgrade Project in Iraq
Shanghai Electric Group Co. Ltd. has started the Euphrates Combined Cycle Expansion Project in Iraq, upgrading power plants in Najaf, Karbala, Babylon, and Al-Qadisiyyah. The project will convert simple-cycle units to combined-cycle systems, adding 625MW capacity and increasing efficiency by 50%, generating 5 billion kWh annually without more fuel. This aims to ease Iraq's electricity shortages.
