According to TradeWinds, the world's second-largest container shipping company, Denmark's Maersk, and the third-largest, France's CMA CGM, are currently in preliminary talks with Chinese shipyards to explore plans for building ultra-large container ships. Both companies are evaluating three vessel options of approximately 19,000 TEU, 22,000 TEU, and 24,000 TEU. The new ships are expected to all use dual-fuel LNG power, with each company potentially ordering between 6 and 12 vessels.

Industry insiders stated that the inquiries from Maersk and CMA CGM are still in the early stages, with vessel specifications and order quantities not yet finalized. The current focus is mainly on communicating delivery schedules for different options.

Although the specific shipyards contacted have not been disclosed, it is widely believed in the industry that major Chinese container shipbuilding enterprises could participate in the competition. Considering that domestic large shipyards currently have ample backlog orders, new ship delivery times are expected to be scheduled until 2030 or even later.
